All right, so today's question, can I actually pay off debt if I struggle with ADHD? Yes, absolutely. Yes, absolutely you can, and I'm here to show you how, for one. But also, I've been there myself for myself. I was undiagnosed and I was on the struggle bus. So First off, let's talk about why it's so hard and why we why we feel like it's so hard. So I just want to clear this U right now. You absolutely can pay off your debt with ADHD, but not with the boring old some not the boring old systems that your brain just wants to quit and run from.
OK, because our brains want to protect us. We are in like protection mode and have, you know, maybe we've started and we've stopped things before. So then we've kind of got this broken trust thing. So we got, we got a little bit of work to do when it comes to getting to the mental space where we can say, yes, we're going to do this. And this is one of the things that I absolutely love working with my clients on is getting through some of these roadblocks because sometimes we can feel like it is such a big monster and it is such a big elephant.
So you know that, you know, you can eat an elephant one bite at a time, but we're like thinking about the whole elephant. And when, when my husband and I were going through our $107,000 elephant, I didn't realize we had that much. So I hadn't truly added it all up until afterwards. But I, it was like, this is a lot and our brains aren't the thing that is holding us back. It's our plan just wasn't set up for our for us and for our brains. And so that's what I love teaching. And so stick around today because this episode is going to help you.
If you have ever felt super discouraged and you're like, I am just going to sit here in my debt and I'm good. This is forever how life is going to be. So it absolutely doesn't have to be that way. So to kick things off, I want to OK, So what are some ways that are going to help you if ADHD and your debt feel like they're getting in the way? So one of the things that was really helpful for for our family is we did these little, little sprints. And the thing that's really cool about these sprints is it's going to give you motivation to start.
And it has, it has a deadline, but it also gives you some quick wins because we don't want to wait around. We're like, oh, you know what, we've got this $1000, this $1000 debt to take care of, but you know, it's going to take us a little bit. No, let's break it down into smaller amounts and say, hey, we're going to make a $200 payment towards our debt this month. So we're going to break that down. Maybe it's in like a two week period. And so you get to work on that and you tackle that. And that's where those wins come from is those, those little wins like that where you freeze free up some money and you're like, hey, you know what, I'm going to put that towards that.
So then instead of taking taking, you know, a couple of months to pay off a debt, you're going to be able to pay that off in two weeks because you have broke it down into smaller pieces. And that's one of the things that we do inside the membership as well, is that we take these big pieces, these big, big tasks and we break them down into smaller bite size action plans so that you don't feel overwhelmed. You also get that, that dopamine, that encouragement, that quick win that our brains are looking for that's going to allow us to continue that momentum.
And then we start to see that visual progress too of that number going down because we're tracking that. We're looking at that and that number is getting smaller. And then that becomes the thing that we're focusing on is what can we do to get that number a lower and lower. And so one of the things that we're doing inside the Debt Rebel community right now is we are doing a summer savings challenge. And This is Money that we're going to look through our budgets together. We're going to look through our spending.
It's all done by e-mail and takes about 10 minutes and 10 minutes a day. So you can jump on my website, debtrebelpodcast.com and get signed up there. And I'm going to send you an e-mail and it's just going to be a quick task that you can do to help you free up some money. The ultimate goal is to make sure that you have that money for an emergency fund. If you don't have that set up at small emergency fund. And if you do have that small emergency fund set up, then you can use it to tackle your debt.
So because as summer comes, other things start to come up and all these extra expenses with our kids start popping up. And so if we have this emergency fund in place, it's going to also allow us to stay focused on our goal of eliminating that debt, giving us some breathing room and not allowing us to jump to that credit card when the life happens. So what do, what do you do inside of all of this? So we, you know, we talked about making a smaller, picking a smaller debt and then just really attacking that.
And so that's one of the things that we're going to do inside this challenge is take that dollar amount that you want to save up. And then we're the everyday steps are going to your that you know, the 10 minute steps are going to help you. So the big thing is, is this is also going to help you build some trust with yourself. Again, your brains going to start going, wait a second, I can do this. And you're going to see that progress is going to start building and building and building. And then they'll be no stopping you.
I'm super excited to go on this journey with you. So jump on my website, debtrebelpodcast.com and you can find some information there too. If you're just like, you know what, I want to skip the challenge and I want to go straight to the membership, we're going to be doing it inside the membership as well.
